Web Development Cool - I'm Not Ugly...I Just Work

I was attending one the free MSDN events yesterday when the presenter asked the question, "What is the most important part of your application?" Before the presenter could answer his own question someone shouted, "That it works!" There is a debate raging in the web development community over Ugly Websites. I guess that Craig's List, Google, 37 Signals, etc. all fall under the category of Ugly. If the term "Ugly" refers to informative and simple, then I guess I'll jump on the Ugly bandwagon.

Web designers want to sell sites that are going to win Webbys and show up on Web Creme. Clients want to buy sites with lots of blinking lights in order to justify the high price tag. Consumers want to be able to go to a site and get the information that they are looking for.

Informative and simple isn't ugly...It's cool.
